LEARNING AND PEDAGOGY

HEC Group of Institutions is built on the foundation of imparting academic excellence, an industry-oriented curriculum and overall development of the students. All the courses that form a part of HEC’s course are aimed to have a perfect blend of professional and traditional learning. HEC’s pedagogy or its methods and practices of teaching combine several philosophies to present the best result to students:

HEC does not only focus on generating capable candidates for job sectors but also on making better human beings. All the courses offered to the students focus on the overall development. Budding entrepreneurs are groomed with courses on Entrepreneurship and in Entrepreneurship Center. Students' soft skills and language skills are sharpened through various courses and hands-on practice. Elective courses are also offered to students to present excellent choices and multidisciplinary knowledge.

Various courses are distributed to know a variety of domains. Special care is taken to distribute these courses year-wise to have a continuous growth of the students every year. Credits are also distributed in such a way that students acquire sufficient knowledge and skills every year successively. The curriculum is designed on the philosophy of Outcome-Based Education (OBE). Objectives and outcomes are defined for each course and are linked with the Program Objectives.

HEC Group of Institutions, ever since their inceptions have been pioneering the ‘case method of instruction’, which is a widely accepted form of teaching in world-class institutions like the Harvard Business School, Yale University, Cornell University, Stanford Graduate School of Business, Indian School of Business, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad etc. In this method, students are encouraged to work through complex, ambiguous, real-world problems and analyse them closely by putting themselves in those life-like situations. Case studies thus can help to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Working on cases requires students to search and evaluate multiple sources of data, encouraging them to research. The case method helps to develop real-world, professional skills - organizational, time management, written and oral communication, presentation, collaboration, team management and decision-making skills. In other words, case studies force students into real-life situations and help to develop real-life skills.

The core philosophy of the college is to use the diversity of the class group as a learning tool. HEC thus integrates students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds as well as diverse abilities into the mainstream classroom. As a precursor to the Right to Education Act, HEC has been providing equal opportunities and inclusive education and has been reaching out to all sections of society including the elite and economically disadvantaged
